Beaded Belt © 2005

Required: 1 ball Hemp Cord by Kars of the Netherlands, or similar string 40 approx. 10mm. beads, shown here harlequin triangle mix from www.jillybeads.com. Knowledge of pearl tatting required.

Method:

Use a tapestry needle as a shuttle and about 1·5m(1½yds) linen thread threaded on, knot together the linen thread and the 2 hemp ball threads.

Thread on 1 bead and work 1ds with 1st ball thread and 1ds with 2nd ball thread.

Then plait the 3 yarns tog.for about 30cms.(1ft.)

Work 1ds with the 1st ball thread and 1ds with the 2nd ball thread. **Thread on a bead, 1ds with 1st ball thread, 1ds with 2nd ball thread and 1ds with 1st ball thread. Thread on next bead, 1ds with 2nd ball thread, 1ds with 1st ball thread and 1ds with 2nd ball thread.** Continue from ** to**until 1 bead remains and the last bead just worked has only 2ds worked following it.

Plait for 30cms.(1ft) then 1ds with 2nd ball thread.

Thread on last bead and knot the 3 threads tog. to match the start.
